Carrie
Swenson has lived on these flat plains of Southeastern New Mexico for
many years. She is awed by the simplicity of the land and is
energized by the light pouring over the vast expanse of flat
land. Married to Wayne Swenson, they have two children, Barry
Swenson of Lovington, New Mexico and Carolyn Parsons of Austin,
Texas. Lovington is her home and her life has revolved around
this area. She is a member of the Lea County Commission for the
Arts, the Llano Estacado Art Association and is a signature member of
the Pastel Society of America.![]() Painting, creating art of any kind is something I am compelled to do. Art is an important part of who I am. Often as I paint I laugh out loud with pleasure. I love the thick, soft squishiness of the paint and the way the brush drags over the canvas. I respond to color with an intense pleasure. I work in both oil and pastel, painting in oil for fifteen plus years. Then pastel, with its drawing quality and rich full color drew me into a concentrated study and has been my primary medium for many years now. Teaching at New Mexico Junior College for the past three years has been a fulfilling task as I watched the students develop, but now I am concentrating on my own work and it is an exciting time for me, a time of growth and evolving as an artist. - Carrie Swenson PSA |
